digital voice analysis/phonological research and computers

Hi,

I’m interested if any one is doing research in phonology/phonetics using the
latest in digital technology.  I was in a music studio with digital editing
software recently; stuff usually used for musicians.  You can see and hear the
sound waves at the same time. You can  Isolate, magnify, manipulate etc..any
section of a  sound wave( a dipthong, or a phrase for example).  It seems the
potential as a linguistic research tool, or language teaching tool is enormous.

I would be interested if anyone has heard of such work being done or if anyone
is doing it themselves.

Take care,
David
