Creationist linguistics

Is there a creationist school of linguistics as Joe seems to indicate?

http://groups.google.com/group/atheism-vs-christianity/msg/22cf81e7cf…

Joe writes:

> > not match up with linguistic facts.

Bob writes:

> Oh, nonsense.  Your "linguistic facts" are based on your interpretation of

Joe writes:

No, I am basing my statement on memory.  I read an article some time

ago about the absence of transitional partial languages, which we

would expect to find, if language gradually evolved.  I have just

searched for it to find it again, but alas!  I was unsuccessful.  So

the best I can do, here and now, is to relate what I remember of the

article.  Basically, it asserts that all the languages we see have

more or less complete structures.  We have not encountered any

societies in any transitional process from pre-language to language.

Languages appear to either be complete, or absent.

One thing that I did find in the research I’ve just done, just so you

guys know, is that your view is very far from being universally

accepted by linguistic researchers.  There is still controversy.  As

is typical of you guys, you assume victory by assertion of your

theories as the only prevailing ones, but that is far from the case in

this field.  Just so you know, that I know.

Is this essay by Larry Trask?

I was looking for a linguistic treatment of "word" to refer the

psychologists to.

Wikipedia has a link to

https://www.sussex.ac.uk/webteam/gateway/file.php?name=essay—what-i…

claiming that it is a "working paper" by R. L. Trask.

The document itself is not signed, and I can’t find any entrance to

whatever page it may be housed on that might be papers by him, or

something like that.

It certainly reads like legitimate Trask — is it perhaps a chapter

from one of his introductory books, which could have a more legitimate

reference?

Other published discussions of "word" on this level would be welcome,

too.

Russian example?

I don’t know Russian, and I’d like to have an example of regressive

assimilation of /t/ to [d] before voiced obstruent(s), as a

counterpart to /vodka/ [votka]. The pages on Russian phonology I’ve

come across don’t happen to have any examples with /t/.

Thanks!
